About Vannamei Prawns
Vannamei — the Pacific White Shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) — is the everyday prawn of Indian kitchens today. Smaller than the Tiger, cleaner-tasting, more predictable in size, and more affordable, Vannamei is the prawn you cook when you want prawn curry twice a week without the price of Tigers. They peel easily, cook in seconds, and take to almost any masala.
The flesh is tender, sweet and firm — closer in texture to lobster than to river prawn — and the flavour is delicate. Because they are smaller than Tigers, they cook even faster: a 60-second poach in a curry is plenty. Vannamei is the prawn for a Bengali chingri malai curry, a Chettinad prawn masala, a Goan balchao, or a simple garlic butter toss on a Friday.
We source Vannamei fresh, clean and devein by hand, and portion per your ask. Availability is stable most of the year; the size varies with the day's landing, and we will tell you the count-per-kg on WhatsApp before you commit.

How to cook Vannamei Prawns
The Bengali chingri malai curry: sear peeled Vannamei briefly in ghee, remove, build a mustard-and-coconut-milk gravy with green chilli and turmeric, return the prawns for the final 60 seconds. For a Chettinad-style prawn masala, use black pepper, fennel, cinnamon and star anise; the prawns go in for the last 90 seconds only. For garlic-butter Vannamei, high heat, 8–10 pieces at a time, butter, garlic, chilli flakes, done in 90 seconds — never longer.
How we deliver it fresh
We source from the coast in the morning, chill it on ice for the drive to Bengaluru and pack it hygienically before it leaves for your door in KR Puram, Whitefield, Marathahalli or the surrounding areas. Nothing here is frozen for days on end and nothing here is chemically treated — the only preservation is temperature. If you order in the morning we deliver the same day; if you order later, we schedule you into the next available slot on WhatsApp before we pack.
Frequently asked about Vannamei Prawns
What is the difference between Vannamei and Tiger?
Different species. Tigers are larger, striped, deeper-flavoured and more expensive. Vannamei is smaller, cleaner-tasting, more affordable, and the everyday prawn for most Indian homes.
How many prawns per kg?
Vannamei typically ranges from 30 to 60 pieces per kg depending on size. We will tell you today's count on WhatsApp before you order.
Are they farmed or wild-caught?
Vannamei is almost universally aquaculture-raised — the responsible farming standard is BAP/ASC. We source from a supplier who follows that discipline.
